Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King, A Love Letter to 16-Bit Action RPGs (Video)

Independent developer Castle Pixel and Publisher FDG Entertainment today announced that Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King will launch in Q1 2017 for PC via Steam. Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is a top-down, pixel art action adventure game that wears its influences on its sleeve and keeps its tongue firmly in cheek while also introducing modern elements, particularly in its art, music and gameplay.

“With Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King, our mission was to make the game we want to play. We are HUGE Zelda fans and particularly love the 2D, top-down games on the SNES and Nintendo handhelds,” said Philipp Döschl, of FDG Entertainment. “We also wanted to streamline and modernise certain aspects to fit in with our tastes and the expectations gamers have today. Our goal was to make a game the way we remember playing it, not how it actually was! If you like top-down action RPGs with a bit of challenge, we think you’ll dig Blossom Tales!”

Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is a delightful mix of well-crafted retro pixel art with a modern twist and action oriented gameplay, drawing you into the world of the Kingdom of Blossom! Experience a fantastic tale passed down from grandfather to grandchildren and be part of the vivid narration by influencing the course of events yourself! Play as the heroine of the story, Lily, Knight of the Rose, as she quests throughout the Kingdom of Blossom to save it from eternal darkness and awake the King from his spell-induced slumber! Featuring over 15 hours of gameplay, a free-roaming overworld full of secrets to discover, items to aid combat and puzzle-solving, four tough dungeons and a fun, but more importantly, funny story – Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is a love letter to the action adventure games of old, but made for the gamers of today.
