Gameloft had a thoroughly triumphant August, with Asphalt 8: Airborne topping the iPad Qi game chart for the month. With its blend of ludicrous arcade racing thrills and impressive 3D spills, it’s easy to see why Asphalt 8 has finished in pole position this time around. At #2, Mikey Hooks follows up where Mikey Shorts left off, albeit with a new compelling swing mechanic. Down in fourth place, rymdkapsel is far easier to recommend than it is to spell. It’s also a beautifully patient strategy game – not that its wilfully abstract presentation would tip you off to the fact. Finally, we have the return of iPad gaming royalty in PopCap’s Plants vs Zombies 2. Time-hopping levels, new units, and a generally well pitched IAP system are the standout features in this tower defence titan.

Topping the iPad Qi app chart for August is Editorial. As you can probably tell from that no-nonsense title, this plain text editor means business. So, yep, you can expect an intuitive drag-and-drop interface and Markdown support. Snappn, meanwhile, takes the #2 spot. And its maker does so using a familiar concept. Yep, it conjures up an overall rating of apps based on a select spread of professional reviews. Now, where have we seen that before? In fourth place, there’s an app for all you managers in SwipedOn. It’s a powerful registry tool that enables you to monitor the presence of staff or site workers, as well as produce personalised swipe card IDs and monitor working hours. Bringing up the rear at #10 is Disney Animated, in which The House of Mouse beautifully illustrates how Disney films are brought to life. There are tons of interactive elements and plenty of concept art from the world’s best-loved animation studio here.

We’ll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which iPad games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the iPad Quality Index now.
