Velocity Ultra Touches Down on PlayStation 3 November 12th

Previously only available on the PlayStation Vita, the award winning vertical shooter Velocity Ultra will be arriving on PlayStation 3 on November 12th (North America) and November 13th (Europe and Australia). Players will be able to buy and download the game via PSN.

The game arrives on the exact day of FuturLab’s 10th anniversary as a development studio, and marks the first time their games have appeared on a home console.

FuturLab have been working very closely with London development house, Curve Studios, to bring the game to the PlayStation 3. A mix of vertical shooter and puzzle game, Velocity Ultra puts players in control of the Quarp Jet, a spaceship equipped with the ability to teleport short distances. The game mixes the best elements of traditional shooters with a teleportation mechanic that adds a layer of complexity rarely found in the genre.

“After the amazing reception of the Vita version, we were really eager to allow as many people to get their hands on our nippy little Quarp Jet as possible.” said James Marsden, Managing Director of FuturLab. “Working with Curve has allowed us to make that a reality, and I’m proud to say the PlayStation 3 version maintains every inch of the speed, excitement and quality of the Vita original.”

Curve Digital are publishing the PlayStation version, making it their fifth game published this year on PlayStation devices.

Curve Studios Technical Director, Richie Turner said: “The original Velocity Ultra was a huge success, and we’ve been working really hard to make sure the PlayStation 3 version continues that legacy. If you never got a chance to play Velocity on the Vita, the PS3 version is an excellent excuse to check out one the best vertical shooters of this generation.”

A PC version of Velocity Ultra is also planned for release later this year, also being developed and published by Curve.

Praise for Velocity Ultra (PlayStation Vita):

“It’s a game that leads by example, never keeping still while making sure you do likewise, and is every bit as essential now as it was 12 months ago.” – Edge

“ Velocity Ultra looks, plays, and sometimes feels like a traditional vertical scrolling shooter, but has a level of accessibility and innovation that separates it from comparable games” – Game Informer

“It looks great, it sounds great and it plays great. It is, quite simply, just a great game, and a must-have for Vita owners.” – Gaming Age
