Wadjet Eye Games, a publisher of retro-style adventure games, and independent developer Grundislav Games have released A Golden Wake for PC, Mac, and Linux. The $14.99 digital download is available DRM-free from the official website (http://goldenwake.com), or can be purchased from online storefronts Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/307570/) and GOG (http://www.gog.com/game/a_golden_wake).
Set in Miami during the inception of iconic planned community Coral Gables, A Golden Wake follows everyman Alfie Banks’ scramble to the top of Florida’s land boom in the 1920s. Explore a vibrant pixel-art representation of the Jazz Age and puzzle through classic point & click style gameplay in this quest for the elusive American Dream: go head-to-head with real estate mogul George Merrick, deal with cutthroat bootleggers and corrupt politicians, get mixed up with the mob, contend with the hurricanes that famously wrecked the Florida coast, and ultimately fight for Alfie’s redemption.
“This game was a real labor of love,” says A Golden Wake’s designer Francisco Gonzalez, a Miami native. “I grew up playing classics like Gabriel Knight and Laura Bow, so being able to share the history of my hometown in this format is something I enjoyed every step of the way. I hope players will not only like the story, but will also be intrigued by the history and want to learn more about it on their own.”
A Golden Wake’s developer Grundislav Games has previously released the freeware series Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator. Publisher Wadjet Eye Games is best known for their Blackwell mystery series, and for publishing acclaimed adventure games including Gemini Rue, Resonance, and Primordia. A Golden Wake is the studio’s first game to release simultaneously for PC, Mac, and Linux.
