Hotel Blind, a VR blind simulator, has released on Steam for Rift and ViveDeveloper Christian Allen, CEO of Serellan LLC, announced today that his simulation game, Hotel Blind, now includes VR support for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
“Whenever I told people about Hotel Blind, they always asked me about VR. Some jokingly, some not.” Allen said, “At some point I mentioned this to Epic, and they sent me a Vive, and then Oculus sent me a Rift, and now Razer is sending me an HDK for OSVR, so that should be up soon as well. The support from the industry for a non traditional game has been amazing. Nvidia even sent me a VR ready graphics card.”
Hotel Blind is a simulation of being blind in a hotel room, and uses audio cues and voice over to help the player navigate through the environment, completing a list of simple tasks. The layout of the rooms is randomized on each playthrough.
Allen was inspired to build the game based on a This American Life episode, “Invisible Made Visible” produced by NPR about Ryan Knighton, a Canadian writer, and his trials and tribulations navigating hotel rooms as a blind person. “It’s so weird.” Knighton said, “I told a story about what it’s like to be blind and lost. Then he sees a game in it. It’s kind of true. How many games are true?”
