It might surprise you to learn that Motorsport Manager tops the Qi iPhone games chart for August. Developer Christian West has managed to turn a potentially dry management game into a slick, tactical masterpiece. That’s not to say that Motorsport Manager qualified for pole position easily, however. Fractionally behind at number two we have inkle’s 80 Days, an imaginative and beautifully produced virtual choose-your-own-adventure book based on the classic Jules Verne tale. Talking of virtual choose-your-own-adventure books, we have another one down at number six. Rather than being based on a literary classic, however, Appointment With F.E.A.R. is an entertainingly gaudy comic book story played out with an extra dose of interactivity. No such narrative concerns for our the final game in our selection. Down at number seven, Rules! impressed all with its well-thought-out procedural puzzler gameplay.
Photivo tops the Qi iPhone apps chart for August. It’s all about simplifying the photo editing process for mobile usage, and given the presence of a sharp one-tap interface, we’d say developer GeoBos has succeeded in that. At number three, meanwhile, we have Hyperlapse from Instagram. The popular image-led social network has produced a powerful and intuitive time lapse video tool here. Vinted brings a touch of shabby chic to this month’s charts down at number six. It’s a great way to sell, buy, and swap pre-owned clothes through an enthusiastic community – all from the comfort of your phone. Finally, at number eight, we have Quest. This new web browser hooks you up to the web with minimal distractions – no history, no favourites, no tabs. Just the internet content you want, presented in full-screen glory.
