(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)

Astro Golf finishes atop April’s Android Qi games chart. Yep, it’s a mini-golf game that’s simply out of this world. Putting cheesy puns to one side, Astro Golf is more of a physics-puzzler than an outright sports game, and it’s all the better for it. Speaking of physics-puzzlers, April saw the much-anticipated Android release of Cut the Rope 2, which lands at #4. Everyone’s favourite candy-munching critter returns with all-new companions and new-found mobility. While we’re linking things up so smoothly, April bore witness to another long-awaited conversion in the shape of Mikey Hooks. Surfacing just a few months after Mikey Shorts, this sequel features the same speedrun platformer gameplay as the original but with a new swinging mechanic. Finally, we have a true original in Shattered Planet. It’s an isometric action-RPG set in a sci-fi world, and it’s another of those challenging roguelikes filled with random level design, permanent death, and huge amounts of replayability.

Topping the April Android Qi app chart is Unreal Space HD, a beautifully star-hazy 3D live wallpaper with high-resolution graphics. More useful (albeit to a specific subset of surfing enthusiasts) is Joel Parkinson Pro Surf at #2. This app provides 30 programs and 150 exercises to help make you better at riding the surf. Just behind that is Boldomatic, something of an anti-social network for those who want to share thoughts and expressions rather than inane cat pictures. Finally, we have the eagerly anticipated release of Microsoft Office Mobile for Android. View and edit your Excel, Word, and PowerPoint documents on the fly with a mobile-optimised UI.
