Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept is the next big DLC expansion pack for Killzone Shadow Fall. It adds a brand new four player online co-op mode to the game, in which you and up to three of your friends are placed on the elite VSA team known as Intelligence Squad Alpha. Operating behind enemy lines, your team is on a mission to intercept and relay Helghast military transmissions back to VSA headquarters.
Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept comes with four arena maps inspired by locations from the single player campaign. It launches this June and will be available for free to Killzone Shadow Fall Season Pass holders. A standalone version of the co-op mode will be made available later this year.
More in-depth information on Combat Roles, maps and tactics for the co-op mode will be published to Killzone.com in the coming weeks.
Gameplay
To complete your mission, you’ll need to keep waves of Helghast interlopers at bay long enough to establish a Hacking Uplink and transmit the data to HQ. Your Team Score indicates how close you are to establishing a Hacking Uplink; increase it by defending your Uplinks from Helghast capture attempts, or by “banking” the Personal Score you’ve accumulated from kills, ability uses and recaptures. You can even earn bonuses such as artillery strikes and jetpacks. Always be on your guard, though: if you lose an Uplink to the enemy or have to respawn after critical injury, your Team Score will incur a penalty. If all members of your team are dead and your Team Score is too low to allow respawning, the mission is a failure.
Combat Roles
The members of Intelligence Squad Alpha have all been trained in unique Combat Roles. Using teamwork and complementing each other’s Combat Roles is absolutely essential to completing the mission. These are the Combat Roles you can divide amongst your team mates:
Assault
The Assault Combat Role specializes in close-quarters combat. The Assault wields a modified version of the LS36 Breacher shotgun, which enables him to quickly dispense enemies that have broken through Intelligence Squad Alpha’s Defenses.
Abilities:
· Use Enemy Weapons
· Deploy Sentry Drone
· Use health pack
· Sprint
Default Loadout:
· Modified LS36 Breacher shotgun
· M55 Rumbler assault rifle with grenade launcher attachment
· Frag grenade x2
Marksman
The Marksman Combat Role is equipped for medium and long range encounters which makes him ideal to scout for enemy movement. The Marksman carries a modified version of the powerful LS70 rifle with explosive rounds, allowing him to take out multiple enemies with a single shot before they become a threat to other teammates.
Abilities:
· Use Enemy Weapons
· Deploy Sentry Drone
· Use health pack
· Sprint
Default Loadout:
· Modified LS70 Fors sniper rifle
· M55 Rumbler assault rifle with ACOG scope attachment
· Laser trip mine x3
Medic
The Medic carries the supplies required to keep his teammates in fighting shape. This Combat Role is mainly support-oriented, and focuses on healing, reviving and resupplying the other members of Intelligence Squad Alpha.
Abilities:
· Revive player
· Drop supply box x2
· Deploy Medi-Drone
Default Loadout:
· LS21 Valk submachine gun
· E-pulse grenade x2
Tactician
The Tactician Combat Role is geared towards defending Intelligence Squad Alpha’s base and Uplinks. The Tactician can use his nanoshield and sentry turrets to put pressure on enemy attack routes, giving his teammates more time to react.
Abilities:
· Deploy Sentry Turret x3
· Deploy Shield
Default Loadout:
· LS12 Ripper machine pistol
· E-pulse grenade x2
Enemies
Just like the members of Intelligence Squad Alpha, the AI-controlled Helghast enemies in Killzone Shadow Fall Intercept have their own sets of goals and Combat Roles. They will switch up tactics and angles of attack when they capture an Uplink, so you’ll need to adapt your defense strategy accordingly. On top of that, the enemy can call on special Helghast champions with unique abilities, based on key Killzone Shadow Fall characters. Expect to go up against some very familiar faces!
