As the popular adage goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” For developer Stéphane Cantin, his journey began 12 years ago on August 19th when his son Max was born and later diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This inspired Stéphane to work with Max to develop Max, an Autistic Journey, so it only seemed fitting to launch on Max’s birthday.
GPAC, LLC and Professional Imagination are honored to announce the launch of Max, an Autistic Journey, the retro-style, top-down, turn-based RPG for Windows PC on Steam and other major digital distribution channels. The title launches on Friday, August 19 2016, with a 10% discount off the game’s SRP of $5.99 in celebration of Max’s birthday.
In Max, an Autistic Journey the player assumes the role of Max, an imaginative ten-year-old, that has been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Traversing Max’s home, school and wild imagination players will find ways to deal with the seemingly insurmountable challenges and frustrations of everyday life. Regardless where you fall in the spectrum of life, Max, an Autistic Journey delivers an entertaining, imaginative and informative adventure where the visualization of the beasts may be fantasy, the emotions and frustrations they represent are very real.
“Not to sound too cheesy, but it really has been a lesson in “it is the journey not the destination” since the day I first asked Max if he would be interested in making a game. Max has even gone on to use the game as a tool in his everyday interactions! That blew me away the first few times I noticed it. He would play the game, comment on it and then, a week later, he would come back from school and say: “Today, I did like the Max in the game does! I closed my eyes and I took 3 deep breaths. Phew! Then I was Ok. No need to get angry…” Talk about being a proud Papa!”
