It’s incredibly refreshing to see DEVICE 6 topping October’s iPad Qi games chart. The way Simogo blends the worlds of literature and adventure gaming here has to be seen to be understood. Suffice it to say, this game’s a wee bit special. Following closely behind at #2 is Reaper – Tale of a Pale Swordsman, which represents the triumphant return of Hexage. This time around, the esteemed mobile game developer has created a compelling action-RPG with neat bite-sized levels. In fifth place, meanwhile, Empire has been impressing the iOS critics with its incredibly mobile-friendly blend of strategy, boardgame, and deck-building elements. You’ll be building empires of a different kind in A Story of a Band, as Veli-Matti Tormanen makes managing an aspiring rock band seem like the most fun job in the world. Fans of Kairosoft’s output should definitely take a look.

The producer of Beat On sets a strong rhythm at the top of the October iPad Qi app chart, offering a digital metronome and special training modes to improve a musician’s rhythm. At #3, meanwhile, Calendar 5 is a fine calendar app with an iOS 7-friendly minimalist design, as well as a bunch of great features (such as naturalistic language input for easy calendar entries). Just behind that, we have another app sequel… Terminology 3. It’s a combined dictionary and thesaurus with a powerful search function, making it an essential research tool. Finally, Perfect Shot does exactly what it says on the tin for your iPad’s camera. Thanks to iOS 7’s advanced new features, the maker of this app can detect individual eyes and smiles to help you take those perfect shots.
