Stoic, an independent game development company and Versus Evil, one of the leading independent video game publishers today announced that the epic Viking RPG strategy game The Banner Saga is now available for Android devices on Google PlayTM, Amazon Appstore and Fire Tablets, priced at $9.99, £6.99 and €8.99.

The Banner Saga, which launched to much critical acclaim on PC earlier this year, has received several awards and nominations, including winner of the 2014 Geekie Awards for “Best Video Game”, finalist for “Excellence in Visual Arts” and two honourable mentions for “Excellence in Design” and “Excellence in Audio” at the 2014 Independent Game Festival. Last month it launched on iOS and has already received rave reviews with a 92 average Metacritic rating.

“Bringing The Banner Saga to Android devices is very exciting for us”, said John Watson, Technical Director and Co-Founder at Stoic. “It opens up a new market for The Banner Saga as well as new opportunities for other platforms. We are constantly looking at ways to improve the experience and introduce gamers to our game. When gamers see our hand painted landscapes coupled with an epic storyline and strategic, turn based combat they are going to be blown away.”

The Banner Saga is a single player driven Viking saga, where a player’s choice in travel, conversation and combat determines the outcome of their own personal story as well as the survival of an entire civilization. The game also features stunning 2D animation and art, a unique tactical combat system and a cast of unforgettable characters, all of which drive this epic journey forward. Players will enjoy a beautiful and haunting original score by Grammy nominated, and two-time BAFTA winner, composer Austin Wintory conducting The Dallas Winds orchestra, as well as a powerhouse trio of acclaimed YouTube sensations: Peter Hollens, Malukah and Taylor Davis.

“Stoic has created something special for premium gaming on mobile devices.” said Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil. “The Banner Saga is a 12-20 hour game play experience that can rival AAA games in its quality art, story, design and music. Bringing this experience to the hundreds of millions of Android devices not only opens the doors to new customers but also to new markets. With their mobile metacritic currently tracking at 92 we know customers will be happy with their purchase.”

Localized in French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish languages, The Banner Saga was one of the earlier funding successes on Kickstarter, which launched in partnership with independent games publisher Versus Evil in January of this year for PC and Mac and for iOS devices in October.
