CCP Games today announced that EVE: Valkyrie™, the virtual reality (VR) multiplayer dogfighting shooter that Wired.com celebrated as “a soaring example of VR as the future of gaming,” and Gunjack™, the visually stunning VR arcade shooter, have launched on PlayStation®VR. Both games were created specifically for VR and build upon CCP’s leadership position in the VR revolution, as well as demonstrate the company’s commitment to creating immersive virtual worlds for players around the globe.
“We’re extremely excited to work with Sony to bring high-quality VR experiences to PlayStation 4 owners,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games. “Both EVE: Valkyrie and Gunjack deliver the VR fantasy, but in different ways. We can’t wait for console players to get their hands on them.”
EVE: Valkyrie was released for Oculus Rift in March, along with Gunjack, which is also available on the Gear VR and HTC Vive platforms.
ABOUT EVE: VALKYRIE
EVE: Valkyrie is an award-winning multiplayer dogfighting shooter that harnesses the very latest advances in virtual reality technology. It is an accessible and immersive experience that fulfills the fantasy and thrill of being a real spaceship pilot in the midst of combat. USA Today noted that EVE: Valkyrie is “perhaps the greatest showcase of virtual reality’s potential.”
With the release of EVE: Valkyrie on PlayStation VR, CCP has ushered in the era of VR cross-platform play, as players on the PlayStation VR on PlayStation®4 and Oculus Rift on PC will play with, and against, each other online.
Developed by CCP Games’ Newcastle studio, EVE: Valkyrie is the boldest realization of virtual reality space combat, combining immediate visceral action and tactical depth. The EVE: Valkyrie Founder’s Pack is available for purchase online via the PlayStation Store and at retail for $59.99.
CCP has already delivered two free updates to Oculus Rift owners, most recently with the Joint Strike release, which added features like a new co-op game mode, a new single-player story mission, quick chat options, and more. This content is included in the PlayStation VR version on day one, and work is already underway on the next major free update to EVE: Valkyrie, due later in 2016. CCP will continue to deliver new maps, modes, ships, and other free content updates to the game over time, working closely with the game’s Founders.
In Gunjack, players take on the role of a gun turret operator on a mining vessel in the Outer Ring region of known space. As part of the ship’s defense team, it is up to the player to protect the rig from pirates, opportunists and anyone else looking to take what rightfully belongs to the company.
Gunjack has been the top-selling game on the Samsung Gear VR since its launch in November 2015, and according to VRFocus.com, the gameis “easily the most visually impressive and overall responsive gallery shooter on Gear VR.”
For its launch on PlayStation VR, Gunjack adds trophies, and will feature a special limited-time PlayStation®Plus member price promotion of 20% off the full price of $9.99.
Gunjack was developed by CCP Games’ Shanghai studio.
