Dutch indie developer Sassybot has announced its narrative video game Fragments of Him will be released on 3 May for PC. The Xbox One version will be following shortly after with the PlayStation 4 version coming later this year. The Dutch studio also revealed the official launch trailer of the interactive drama in which players experience a story of love, memories, and hope. Although the story concerns overcoming grief, the game aims to deliver an uplifting experience about the value of opening your heart to others.
Fragments of Him follows the aftermath of Will’s sudden death, and how the lives of those close to him are affected by this loss. In the story-driven experience, with a play-time of approximately 2.5 hours, players walk alongside Will in the final moments of his life as well as through the memories of people who loved him. The game features stories from the lives of Will’s boyfriend Harry, who returns to an empty apartment filled with reminders of Will; Sarah, his ex-girlfriend who later became a good friend to the couple; and Mary, his grandmother feeling alone and betrayed by a society she barely recognises. The player moves through the world in the first-person, but directs the story from outside of the protagonists, creating a unique ‘second-person’ feel to the experience.
“We have been on an amazing journey since we started development at a game jam more than three years ago, and it is wonderful that players will soon be able to experience our story”, said Elwin Verploegen, co-founder of Sassybot. “We are regularly overwhelmed by how our audience is moved by the game, and how they appreciate a title combining emotional honesty on a difficult topic with such an uplifting ending.”
Fragments of Him will launch on Steam (PC) for €19.99 / $19.99 / £ 14.99. The Xbox One version will be following shortly.

Fragments of Him is an interactive narrative experience told from a second person perspective. The story revolves around a tragic accident, and the life of the victim and his loved ones before and after the incident. The player plays through the events and the locations as if they were the spirit or intellect of the characters, making decisions and starting actions that progress the story. Follow the story of Will as you see how he influenced the lives of his grandmother Mary, his ex-girlfriend Sarah, and his boyfriend Harry. Through this snapshot of their lives we see that when a young man suddenly dies, left behind there will always be Fragments of Him.
