Slitherine will publish Empires Apart (Video)

This ambitious RTS, developed by DESTINYbit, is coming to PC next year

If you listed the major PC strategy games from the past that you would really, really like to play today on modern PC’s, with a few enhancements, the list would probably feature titles like Age of Empires, Empire Earth and Stronghold.

Empires Apart aims to be precisely that. Its goal is to re-capture the excitement and wonder of collecting resources, building an army and leading it to victory. It’s a throwback, but with a modern twist. It takes snippets from MOBAs, hints from MMORPGs, but wants to be Age of Empires at heart.

Slitherine Ltd. will release Empires Apart next year. The agreement with ambitious developer DESTINYbit sets the release date in the second half of 2017, so the path is still long, but the game as it is now, already shows all the signs of delivering on where Age of Empires left off.

“We are really excited to be working with Slitherine”, said Gian Paolo Vernocchi, one of DESTINYbit’s founders. “When it comes to strategy games, they’re among the best in the business and this partnership enables us to fulfill our vision for a modern old-school RTS. We want to make a truly meaningful contribution to this genre and give the fans the game they always wanted”.

The game is developed in the Unreal engine.

“Age of Empires is a great game and there has been very little in that genre for the fans to play over the last few years”, said Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. “Multiplayer is especially difficult even in the HD version. There is a real gap in the market which DESTINYbit identified and we’re pleased to be working with this talented team. It keeps true to everything that made Age of Empires great but also has some great new ideas we think will keep the community happy for another 10 years “.
