Xmodule is a car racing game that allows you to fully customize your car and 3D print it.The idea behind this project is to give the gamer the feeling to be the creator of his own car, as the customization possibilities are thousands.
You won’t create your car only onscreen but also physically. Indeed, as you progress through the game, you unlock more and more car parts and everytime a new part is available, you can also have access to the 3D file. In this way, you will hold in your hands the model you have created! If you don’t have a 3D printer, we have a partnership with 3DHubs so that players will have the option of sending parts to their local 3D printing service for fabrication at a competitive price.
This project is a link between videogames, 3D printing and scale modeling. The game will be available for Windows and Mac in early 2017 and has been already Greenlit on Steam. See our campaign here: Xmodule Kickstarter campaign
About The Game
Xmodule is a sci-fi car racing game that allows you to fully customize your car and 3D print it. The idea behind this project is to give the gamer the feeling to be the creator of his own car, as the customization possibilities are thousands.
You won’t be only the creator of your concept car, but also the owner. Indeed, as you progress through the game, you unlock more and more car parts and everytime a new part is available, you can also have access to the 3D files. In this way, you will hold in your hands the model you have created!
In order to win you need to improve more and more your vehicle. During the race there are no power ups or weapons, so the only way to be succesful is to build a great car and to drive as fast as you can.
You’ll start the game choosing between different car modules, in other hands car settings.
They differ between each other for the engine position, dimension and weight.
You won’t be able to change your module during the career and there aren’t any cars to unlock. You have to build and improve your chosen module in order to win.
Also you’ll be able to use the boost and recharge it drifting in the corners.
As a sci-fi game the environments are full of steel and futuristic structures. The cars have been created taking inspiration from the RC world trying to apply the same proportions in 1:1 cars.
Everything is exaggerated, the wheels protrude outside the chassis to generate more grip.
Everything is customizable, from the tires and wheels to the engine parts.
The proportions are realistic but we decided to use a cartoon style with saturated colors and great contrast to enfathise the suggestion of something unreal and to have the chance to experiment more with the graphics.
We’re trying to create something unique and in order to do that is important to have a strong design.
The more you win, the more car parts you unlock and you’ll be able to 3d print them getting the 3D files. We’re prototyping the components to be assemblable without using any glue but just creating specific joints between each part.
